Hope that more people dob in the dealers and stop the bootleggers selling it cheap. Prosecute them when they
come before me as me and my colleagues on the bench can send them to prison.

    What are your suggestions?
The police need more people to report drug dealing to them to help find the dealers.
More shop checks to ensure alcohol isn’t sold to underage people.
Awareness through ‘shock’ tactic – show people the effects that they could face
Get children and people occupied in better hobbies- sports etc.. so they are busy doing good activities
Increase minimum alcohol prices and target the ‘happy hours’ and drinks promotion nights in Darlington clubs/pubs.
    All ideas welcome

Get harder punishment for those who break the law around drugs and drink. I think if you are addicted to one of these, then help is needed. We all know that dealing with addiction is a very difficult thing and people need help to break those habits.

Having lived in Holland where pubs are open all day and canabis is leagal, and they have less problems. I think the biggest problem is our cultural attitude to it. We seem to be an obsessive nation and this means more of us go too far. I think this would need to change before we really get on top of it.

The only other way is not nice as we would ban alcohol and drugs completly and shoot anyone found with any. lol

I would like to see all drugs legalised, then people who choose to use drugs could be properly helped because they wouldn’t have to hide away and get their drugs from criminals. i don’t believe there would be more people using drugs if we did that because everyone is taught about drug use in school and know the risks. However, i know this argument doesn’t seem to apply to alcolhol, young people are taught about that too, but there is still a prevalent attitude that it is cool to get uncontrollably drunk. It’s OK to drink, but only when you’re old enough and only to enjoy yourself and not deliberately get drunk. So I would get young people themselves to talk to other people of the same age about it. I’d also show town centre CCTV footage of kids falling over and being sick in the street. would that put people off do you think?
