My family recycle everything why dont young people give it a go. Lead by example, show the parents
how it is done. We all should be making each other aware that the future is yours and you all should be
doing your bit. How many young people recycle?

I would really like all new developments/building to be required to have solar panels, geo-thermal heating and wind turbines as a standard requirement to get planning permission. I’d like all school and council buildings to be as eco-friendly as possible. The council is pushing for these targets, however new technology come at a high cost. I also would like to see the ‘DIG’ Darlington Project take off, which encourages people to grow fruit and vegetables across the town. It would be good if more allotments were available and schools made gardening and sustainability a higher priority on their curriculums. I’d also like more trees and planting across the town to make it a ‘greener’ environment.
I am hoping that like Nisasn and other major car brands make more eco-friendly cars – my husband has converted his car to autogas – this seems to be becoming more popular but all these eco ideas are so much more expensive – the costs need to reduce to allow people to be able to justify these options.

Here are a few of my ideas:- I would bring bus fares down and improve the service so we would use them more rather than cars. I would encourage everyone to buy into a wind farm on the outskirts of Darlington. This would mean we would use some of the energy and then sell the rest to the power company so making us money. I would recycle better so we could sell tins and plastic to companies in England rather than sell it overseas.

I would like to think that the council could build on what we are already doing. Encourage recycling, dispose of your rubbish in a ‘green’ way, switch to electric, diesel of other types of effecient vehicle, save on energy use and all the sort of things you can do at home. I would like to see people cycle more and use buses so that there are not so many cars on the road. I’d encourage children to walk to school, so that’s a start.

Stockton council do a lot more than Darlington to be environmentally friendly. They have blue bags for paper and they allow a larger variety of things to be put in the green box. Also they have different wheelie bins for things to be put in and bags to recycle grass in. I think Darlington should improve their methods in collecting people’s recycle rubbish and giving people more resources to dispose of recyclable materials. I do think Darlington’s ways of getting messages across to children about walking to school and such are really good though. (And I have been to both a Stockton school and a Darlington school.) We already have some wind turbines and that’s really good but I think the smaller villages such a Sadberge should be persuaded to welcome them a bit more.
