No actually crime figures in Darlington are dropping. There are statistics backing this up.
Mind you the reporting in the Northern Echo does make it look as if it is bad but that is the reason we buy newspapers
    not for the good news!

The statistics tell us that crime is going down, but in some areas people may have a different experience. Things like car crime and theft are definitely less than I remember 10 years or so ago. Perhaps the perception of crime is that it is a problem, mostly because petty crime and anti-social behaviour gets a lot of publicity.

There is some crime in Darlington I know this because my car got broken into on Friday. I think that reported crime is going down, but with the cuts coming I think crime will go up unfortunatly. I would like us to help the police cut crime in Darlington and make it a safe placce to live, don’t you?

We are fortunate enough in Darlington to have fairly low levels of crime in our town. Violent crime however is always a real worry for me.

I don’t feel as a resident aware of crime and as a ward councillor the crime rates are quite low. I think it depends on where you live as to whether crime is high – it is very variable depending on location.
