Darlington just seems to be improving all the time. The proof is the competitions we win like Northumbria in bloom the awards we get for being an efficient council and just look at the town centre! Last Saturday it was hard to move in Darlington because there was so many visitors. It is good to have a vibrant and pretty town. You know the council does try its very best to make the town something special we do not try to make people unhappy with their town. It is also hard to keep it clean because not everyone puts their litter in the bin. CCTV keeps it safe not just for people but for cars as well.

The most noticeable change is the town centre. I like the new pedestrianised bit. Also, the market is much more lively and better used than it was ten years ago. The parks are much better too, especially South Park, which was very run down but then gwe ot a Lottery grant to improve it.

On a positive note big employers have been attracted to the Borough and stayed in the borough creating good job prospects for residents and we now have a university campus.

On the negative side, well where do I start? They ripped up the beautiful Victorian town centre that reminded us of our past and replaced it with some dodgy chinese granite that makes the town centre look like any one of 200 town centres around the country. They made the Dolphin centre look great but did nothing to improve the main attraction of the Dolphin Centre – the pool! They built an insane roundabout (or thru-about as they like to call it, or a traffic jam as most people like to call it) and a road to nowhere that enable motorists to see into the bedrooms of the houses on Redhall that face the road. They introduced pinch points on the inner ring road that restrict the flow of traffic…..I don’t really think I need to go on!

The fact is, this is why I am in local politics because I want to do this differntly from the existing establishment. You don’t get things done by sitting at home and moaning , you have to go out and do something about it.
