People consistantly say it is a crime because it is, being caught doing it can lead to a sentence in the courts. What happens when the wall gets full? Drawing on people’s walls is criminal damage whatever way you justify yourself. Its costs huge amounts of
money to clean it up. I know a neighbour who couldnt get it off the gable end of his house and had to end up planting a tree to cover it up.. It is just not funny!!!!

some graffiti is great. Now you must understand that drawing genitalia on walls is likely to offend some people and frighten the horses! We have a policy in the council that racist or offensive grafiiti should be removed in about 48 hours. So get real! Be an artist by all means – and I think the wall is a marvellous idea, it has been discussed before and I believe we have had temporary ones. Do you like Banksy – or do you think he’s sold ou now that he’s famous?

I agree that good graffiti is better than daft slogans on a wall but it isn’t everyones cup of tea. I recently visited London and saw some of Banksy’s work and I thought it was fantastic but he was always going to be up against it when it came to winning over public opinion. Graffiti walls are a great idea but providing enough areas for local talent is always going to be a problem because of where we place them. Good graffiti artists tend to be very creative people and I would hope that they could channel their creativity into more mainstream activities….like Banksy has done! You’re probably going to hate that last bit but I have to be realistic.
