About twenty to thirty years ago, people were seriousl y worried about the possibility of nuclear war. The USA and Russia seemed to be constantly squaring up to each other in what was known as the Cold War. There was (still is ) an American base in North Yorkshire which did top secret communications and stuff and many people felt itmight be a target for the Russians and put us all in danger. So lots of people demonstrated about that at the base and i was among about 80 people who got arrested. It seems very strange now. In 1989 the Berlin Wall came down and Russia got divided up into lots of states and it is not seen as so dangerous. Not sure about the USA though, it’s still very powerful and we still have nuclear weapons (Trident) which i wish we didn’t.
