This is a hard question to answer I’m keen to hear you ideas, as a councillor I beleive in listening to the residents views and opinions rather than me following my ideas.
I think being eco friendly is a mind set and it takes people to be positive
in wanting to be eco friendly. I think that initiatives like recycling can get people
motivated but some people just cannot be bothered, How can we get them
to be motivated?
I think we could look at getting solar panels put in, get a better bus service to the village, get everything recycled including furniture and unwanted clothes. I would also like to see a wind farm near Darlington that is owned by the people of Darlington that would allow us to get cheap electricity and then allow us to sell the rest back to the grid. This means we would make money from it too.
You may not know this yet but St. Georges school has just won an award for its travel to school plans. This plan included encouraging parents and children to walk or cycle to school rather than go by car. I fully support plans like this because they have a real impact on reducing our carbon emissions.
The whole Borough of Darlington is working to make us all more eco-friendly. There is a new idea on the go at the moment. – a Darlington orchard. The idea is to plant apple trees all over the place. There must be lots of places in MSG fo apple trees – and growing your own food and things like that.
