I think we should have compulsory voting as they do in Australia as one example. To those who say I don’t like any of the candidates, that is OK, you can just say so on your ballot paper ‘ none of the above’!! At least it means people may take more interest if thy know they have to vote. Also, there are postal votes now and maybe in the future it could be online, so there would be no excuse!!!
Democracy is a serious process. It can mean the difference by a few votes which political party
or person you have to represent you. This is why your six councillors are up for this bit of fun. We
want to make more young people aware of the democratic process without it being too boring! I think that people have fought and died (especially women) to get the right to vote and I think that the democratic process should be enough to make people want to vote. I dont want to go down the road of dictatorship, do you?
I would like to see everybody vote, but unless you make it compulsary you will not get it to happen. I would like to see a box on the voting slip that said none of the above. This would make more people vote , but what it would mean is if 40% or over voted for none of the above we might have to do the election all over again with different candidates.
