I did in my school. We used to have our dinners at North Road brought into school and then dished out it was horrible. We then leased a load of kichen equipment and got a school cook. The food immediatly tasted so much better. There was a choice for one. I also liked the idea of providing a picnic so that the children coulod eat outside on a hot day. There is no way that you can please everyone because food is such a big thing in our lives (we need it to stay alive) but having a choice does matter. School councils do their bit and petition them if the food you get offered is not for you or your mates.
More locally sourced food and more adventurous options presented nicely plus more good dessert treacle sponge and custard type options – I know they’re not healthy but they’re delicious and primary child burn it off at playtime.
My school dinners are ok but sometimes I think the options aren’t varied enough.
What would you suggest
I would let Kids in the school put together a menu for at least one day of the week. Not everyday because the school has an obligation to provide a balanced menu.
I was involved in a study of the school dinners the Council supplies and I thought they were really good already. If i could I’d invite Jamie Oliver in to help us.
