I think if you have to get a bus to school it should be very cheap. I think that it is unfair that some kids get free transport and others don’t just because of where you live. It could be just one street difference. If I win I will look into how many people have to get the bus then see if we can find a way to help.
I think this is highly unlikely in the present climate. As you know the buses are provided by a private company. I think it would be in their interests to offer cheap deals for students, it would probably make a profit for them in the long run if more students used buses, but a public subsidy is very unlikely when we are having to cut budgets.
I think that money will always be a struggle for students of any age who do not have an income and have to depend on the buses to get about. My son when he went to QE had a weekly bus pass that made it a bit cheaper. It is the private bus companies that set the rate for fares.
I think bus travel for everyone should be cheaper to encourage a more sustainable travel plan. Cheaper bus tickets may encourage more people to swap from their cars to a bus but Arriva need to make this decision.
