I finished my degree in politics last year at Northumbria University and did a year at QESFC. I had four years of really
hard homework and I didnt have to do it like you do. I really loved it but I was glad when it finished.

I hated homework when I went to school. In fact I got my boyfriend to do it for me.

Not really – I like doing research but hated getting homework that was too difficult – simultaneous equations and algerbra was the worst. Can’t stand writing essays.

I think that independent learning is key to providing young people with a rounded education, I would ask students to handwrite most stuff unless it relies solely on their imagination as I think the temptation to cut and paste from the internet is just to great for many people. I know that some schools across the Borough give out more homework than other but it tends to be the schools that expect the most homework are the schools that get the best results.

However, I visited a school in Derby on Tuesday and they did not give pupils homework but they were a very high acheiving school. I asked the headteacher about this and she explained that independent learning is built into the school day. An interesting concept which leads me to my conclusion, which is…

independent learning is essential but it doesn’t have to be outside of the school day. But remember that qualifications are the keys to your future and the more keys you have the more doors you can unlock and the better and more prosperous life you can lead. So next time you are trying to avoid doing your homework try and remember this and you will thank yourself in later life.

No, I hated homework when i was at school. I really wish that I had stuck at it though and maybe I would have done better at my exams.

I think it’s necessary to do some homework so that you have time to think about what you did at school that day, and it’s often helpful to sit down on your own or to talk to your parents about it. It’s important that your parents share in what you do at school and having homework is a way to do that.
