Ha and idealist! Money does and always will matter and I am a bit of a realist and know you cannot
get something for nothing. I would like to have more Leisure facilities in the town like an Escape that they have
in Castleford near Wakefield. Private investors financed that and they must be making the money.
I would love to have a big new modern concert hall and theatre bang in the middle of town and run a festival every year of music and drama and general fun, using outdoor spaces as well
I’d restore all the old buildings in the town centre and fringe – look above all the shops in town including Dominoes Pizza on Northgate. I’d also make all shop fronts old fashionned and traditional with lovely signage and canopies – get rid of tacky plastic shop fronts. Get all the empty shops filled with unique shops and rejuvanate the market into a Food Hall style market like Harrods or Selfridges in London / Lewis and Cooper in Northallerton. This restoration would then pull in more business and customers/tourists. I think rooftop cafes and gardens (I went to one in Salisbury that was fab). I’d like this all to be eco-friendly too with bins like in Japan where people sort the waste into different categories correctly. I have very expensive ideas! I’d also like more facilities like skate parks, bowling and ice skating, floodlit soccer pitches available in Darlington.
Thats hard it is a toss up between more shops or more sports facilities. I think I would like my cake and eat it and have both. If not I would like to see who would benifit the most from each of these and chose the one with the greatest benifit.
