I have been Chair of Governors at Northwood (North Road previously) Primary School for nearly 20 years. We have had upwards of 400 pupils for many years. I have been a governor at Longfield School and Eastbourne School. In a collective sense all the 53 councillors are responsible for all the education in Darlington. I have been going to QESFC for more than 10 years talking about magistrates and civic stuff so you could say all of them in one way or another!
In my capacity as a Councillor I work with all maintained schools across the borough. This morning I was working with children from Skerne Park Primary and this evening I was at a meeting at the QE. I recently visited Northwood Primary to see the new eco building. Proffesionally I do not work with any schools in the Borough as this would be a conflict of interest.
I teach at Staindrop Primary School as a Year 4 teacher. I went to High Conniscliffe Primary School and then Hummersknott and then to QE Sixth Form. I would like to work with school related to Eco-Schools which I am involved with in County Durham.
Councillors don’t really work closely with schools on a day to day basis. That is the job of the people who are employed by the Council. But what I do is to sit on the Children and Young People committee which looks after all the schools in the town. I have special connections with Corporation Road School which is in my ward, and I used to work at Hummersknott, so I feel a close link with I that school.

As a supply teacher I could go to any secondary school in the North East. I generally go to about 25 different schools in a school year.
