That would be great. The main problem is can we prove it was you who voted? There are allegations with the election that happened in May. Several areas have been accused of fraud arround postal votes. And with those you provide a date of birth and signiture, Phones are causing a problem to make them fool proof from fraud. I do like the idea though, I think more peopel would vote.

It would probably entice more people to actually vote – the phone maybe would need code numbers to log in to ensure people can’t make duplicate votes.

I do think this has to come. It seems ridiculous to me that it is easier to vote for X factor than in a democratic election. The problem is it is open to fraud (as you know that happens on TV programmes) and it cannot be allowed in important elections, because it affects the way we are governed.

Hi Hannah what a really good idea and it is something that I have advocated for for years. People should be able to vote whichever way they want. It seems to me that there is a lot of television politics and people would prefer to vote from the comfort of their own home. The one downside is the possibility of fraud. In x factor it does not matter how many times you vote but in elections it is one person one vote.

In this election you all have a card with a unique number so if it works here it should work elsewhere!
